Painting for me is enjoyment of the neccessary kind. It's like food and sleep is to living. Painting brings me peace. Sometimes I'm starving to paint. Starving and empty in the way of not being present in the moment at work or where ever I'm physically standing or sitting. It's not even just the painting itself. It's about the process. It includes all the preparations, the walks, driving and looking, taking pictures, studying the photos, feeling the air, hearing the sounds. It's solace to me. But it gives me fuel to do a better job at work. The painting process transports me to a better state of mind and body. It just takes me to places I never get tired of or bored with experiencing.. It's always an adventure. If I get my painting time I do a much better working at my job, of listening to others, of helping others. If I'm feeling stressed or frazalled, when things are caotic and crazy as it is for everyone from time to time I can get lost and listen to myself when I'm in the "process". It calms me yet excites me. It's my medicine when I'm emotionally drained or"sick". It's hard to explain to anyone that is not a painting how much joy the process of painting can bring to a painter. When a person enjoys music that person can appreciate the work the artist put into the music because that person wouldn't listen if they didn't enjoy it. Sometimes it's a bigger challenge than at other times. The rewards far out way any and all whether your painting ends up worthy of showing to others or not. When it comes along to be what you wanted it to be the rewards far outweigh the pain of the process. Other times it's a joy from beginning to end. It's icing on the cake to see others enjoy your creation.
